Appeals is developing compostable packaging solutions made from agricultural waste, that will extend shelf life of fresh produce, with minimum damage to the environment, designed for maximum consumer appeal in terms of aesthetics and ease of use, portability and disposal.
When Expertise in Design, Food Engineering, Packaging and Environment Merge
Appeals is led by Yasmin Yotam, an Industrial Designer, M.Des. project manager, innovation workshop facilitator and environmental activist, and Dr. Shira Rosen, B.sc in Food and Biotechnology Engineering, PhD in creative thinking, who managed the packaging development department at Strauss Group for the past 18 years.
Meeting a True Market Need
The renewable packages for produce market is huge, estimated at $1B - $5B. Appeals will purchase raw material from growers, develop specific material helping to protect fresh produce and causing less harm to the environment, and sell the new material or specifically designed package to growers, wholesalers or packaging manufacturers. It’s a circular economy startup, that enhance industrial symbiosis.
Appeals is currently raising $1.5M US for R&D of a novel material from garlic skin, market research and prototype testing of desirable and cost-effective packages made from agri-waste and building a multidisciplinary team of experts in packaging, design and marketing. Close
